Application advice

We want to make our application process as simple as possible. To give your charity the best chance of success, here are some tips when completing the form:

1. Answer the question directly

Read each question carefully and make sure your answer is clear. If the form asks for “what difference your work makes,” describe the impact you have on people’s lives, not just the activities you run.

2. Provide enough detail

Although there is no word count for answers, we need enough information to understand your organisation and the difference you make. Avoid one-line answers and equally don’t bury nuggets of useful information in waffle. A few well-written sentences can help us see the value of your work.

3. Be specific

Where possible, include examples:

  • Who do you support?
  • How many people benefit?
  • What kind of changes do you see in your community?

4. Keep it simple

You don’t need to use complicated language. We’re interested in what you do and why it matters, not in jargon or technical detail.

5. Show the need

Explain why your work is important. What problems or challenges are people facing in your community, and how does your charity help?

6. Explain how you will use the grant

Tell us how you would spend the money if you are awarded a grant. For example: staffing, rent, equipment, or programme costs. Even if the grant won’t cover everything, show how it will make a difference.

7. Be honest about challenges

It’s fine to mention the difficulties your charity faces (like funding gaps or volunteer shortages). This helps us understand your situation better.

8. Check before you submit

Before sending your form, read it through carefully. Make sure all questions are answered fully and that contact details are correct.

Remember: We don’t expect perfect applications. We simply want to understand your charity, the work you do, the impact you have and how our funding could help.
