About us

Riverhorse is a grant-giving trust established to strengthen the work of small, community-focused organisations. We believe that even modest funding can unlock meaningful change when it is placed in the hands of groups working directly with people at a local level.

We operate through The Master Charitable Trust, a registered UK charity that provides Donor Advised Funds (DAFs). This arrangement allows us to benefit from their governance, administration, and compliance while we focus on our mission of supporting small charities.

For applicants, this means:

  • Grants are distributed by The Master Charitable Trust, with funding recommendations made by the advisors of the Riverhorse Trust.
  • All applications, eligibility checks, and communications are managed by the Riverhorse Trust.
  • Using a Donor Advised Funds keeps our administration costs low, so more of our funds can go directly to charities like yours.

We support UK charities with an annual income of under £100,000, recognising the vital role they play in providing frontline services and responding quickly to the needs of their communities.

Our grants range from £1,000 to £5,000 and are designed to be accessible and practical. We fund organisations as well as specific projects, giving charities the flexibility to use the money where it is needed most — whether that’s running a support programme, keeping the doors open, or covering essential costs.

Our approach is simple and straightforward. We aim to make applying for a grant clear and manageable, so that small charities can focus their time and energy on what matters most: supporting people and strengthening communities across the UK.
