UK-registered charities with an annual income of under £100,000 are eligible to apply. Your charity must provide services that directly benefit people or community groups in the UK.

2. How much funding can we apply for?

You can apply for a grant of between £1,000 and £5,000.

3. What kind of work do you fund?

We fund charities providing direct support to people in their communities. This could include funding a project, service, activity, or equipment.

4. Do you fund specific projects or general costs?

We fund organisations and projects, which means you can use our grants flexibly. This could include project costs, core running costs, or essential overheads that help you deliver your work.

5. What don’t you fund?

We do not fund:

  • Charities with an income over £100,000
  • Organisations working primarily outside the UK
  • Activities focused only on campaigning or lobbying
  • Individuals applying for personal support

6. When can we apply for a grant?

The Riverhorse Trust offers two funding rounds each year, in Spring and Autumn. The Spring round closes at the end of February and the Autumn round closes at the end of August. You’re welcome to apply at any time. Applications received outside these closing dates will be held and considered in the next available funding round.

7. How will we know if our application has been successful?

We will contact all applicants once funding decisions have been made, whether your application is successful or not.

8. How long does the decision process take?

The aim is to complete the process within 8 weeks of the funding round closing. We aren’t able to put an exact timeline against the process as there are a number of variables to consider.

9. Can we apply outside the submission window?

You can apply at any time and your application will be considered in the next available funding round.

10. When will we hear back?

We aim to confirm receipt of your application within 5 working days. Most funding decisions are made within 8 weeks.

11. What happens if we are successful?

If your application is successful, we will contact you to arrange the grant payment. We will also explain any reporting requirements (normally a short update at the end of the funding period).

12. Can we reapply if unsuccessful?

Yes. If your application is not successful, you are welcome to apply again in a future funding round. We encourage you to contact us if you would like feedback.

13. Do you offer multi-year funding?

We intend to offer multi-year grants to organisations that can demonstrate impactful use of funds.

14. Who makes the funding decisions?

Applications are reviewed by the Advisors of the Riverhorse Trust. Decisions are based on eligibility, the strength of the application, and available funds.

15. How do you operate?

The Riverhorse Trust operates under The Master Charitable Trust, which manages our fund and distributes grants on our behalf. We make the funding decisions, while they provide the legal and administrative framework.
